Places Where You Go for Swimming in Istanbul
Istanbul is not a lucky city although it is surrounded by 3 seas. It is not because of the fact that the beaches are not good, but because of the fact that the seas around it have become very dirty and the wastes in the water affect the health of the people in a bad way. In some places of Istanbul, which have coasts and beaches on Marmara, The Black Sea and the Bosphorus lines, it is not dangerous to swim. Although those beaches are not as nice as the ones in the West and South, they can still meet the needs of people in İstanbul and give them the opportunity to enjoy themselves.
First of all let’s have a look at the beaches in Istanbul Turkey:
Florya Gunes Beach: Florya, which is a part of Bakırkoy, was a summer place of Istanbul in the past. It is still one of the precious places where people can swim, even where Ataturk used to swim. The Sun Beach has lifeguard cabins, rescue boats and changing rooms, and it is one of the official beaches.
Florya Çiroz Beach: Florya Çiroz Beach is just like Florya Güneş Beach, it is also one of the places where people can swim. Sometimes tours are made to the beach for one day, camporees come and they swim together.
Florya Menekşe Beach: This beach is also in Florya. It is the longest beach of Florya with a 600m-length and very suitable for swimming. But the depth is not same everywhere. In some parts, you may see pollution more often.
Durusu Karaburun Beach: this is a beach close to Kilyos and is situated near the Lake Terkos. Durusu is the cleanest and best beach to go for swimming in Kilyos, which is one of the famous places to swim. Durusu has also a wonderful scene viewing the Lake Terkos. It’s just for those who are in love with sea.
Caddebostan Beaches: Caddebostan Beaches, which consist of 3 beaches, are situated on the Anatolian side of İstanbul. The beach had been closed until the beach was brought to the level at which people could swim. Afterwards, it was open to the public again. This beach, which is full of people especially at weekends in summer, can be seen as the most popular beach of İstanbul, because it is in the city center.
Küçüksu Beach: It is one of the rare beaches on the Bosphorus line and is close to the Anatolian Fortress. But swimming is forbidden especially during the currents.
Şile Uzunkum: Şile is one of the most precious places of İstanbul. In Şile, which is far from noise, Uzunkum Beach is the most popular beach. But there is sometimes drowning risk when there are waves in the sea.
Çatalca ve Silivri Beaches: In some places such as Kumburgaz, Albatros and Gümüşyaka, which belong to Silivri and Çatalca, people swim in summer.
After those public beaches, some other beaches have been established recently, where you have to pay for entrance. Solar Beach, Burc Beach, Dodo Beach etc. in Kumburgaz and Marmara, and Dalia Beach, Nonstop Beach etc. in Kilyos and The Black Sea are examples for the beaches requiring entrance fee. It is also possible to swim in the islands town apart from the mainland. There are public and private beaches especially in Büyükada, Kınalıada and Heybeliada. Besides, you can find also beaches that belong to the military personnel and officers’ club. By paying, you can enter these beaches with a guest-card for one day.
